West Horndon Regrouting
Problem with your tiled areas in West Horndon? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant.
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Grout in corners that has cracked
How we handle regrouting in West Horndon
Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We work on bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and tiled floors, and common reasons people get in touch are floor grout that won’t come clean and shower grout that has worn away.
Homes around West Horndon are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in West Horndon and everywhere else we cover.

How we quote for regrouting
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- The type of sealant required
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Access and height
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- The type of property

Homes close to St Francis include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Letting a property close to West Horndon station? Then a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

Leave it or put it right?
Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like West Horndon, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What the job involves on each surface
Kitchen splashbacks
The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.
Shower walls
The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We rake it out and regrout, and reseal the corners.
What happens on the day
At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere as small as West Horndon, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Tell us if parking is tricky

Advice
How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Do you need regrouting in West Horndon?
Grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that is used every day.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
Schools such as West Horndon Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
