How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

About our regrouting in Uplees

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors, and people most often call us about floor grout that has worn and darkened and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease.

Somewhere as small as Uplees, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Uplees

Uplees is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you look after a building such as Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Letting a property close to Faversham station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Uplees is about 2 miles north of Faversham, in Kent. Whether you’re in the middle of Uplees or further out, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike. Our Kent coverage runs to 922 places, Uplees among them. You can also see our page for Chelmsford, about 32 miles away.

What happens if it’s left?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We’ll tell you before we start so you know what’s involved. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Uplees, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Why us?

What we do, step by step

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Uplees needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Advice

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but still stain and crack. Regrouting brings them back in line.

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Questions from Uplees

Can you do regrouting in Uplees?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Uplees is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Do you work for landlords with property near Faversham station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location, with photos by email if possible. We will ask anything else we need to know.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Is there any odour?

Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

Do I have to be there?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

How long does regrouting take?

A typical job takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Quotes for regrouting in Uplees

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The size of the job
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How easy the joints are to reach

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the property is
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

To get a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

What we cannot put right

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
