Regrouting in Stonor, Oxfordshire

- Grout washed out of a shower
Regrouting in Stonor, done properly
A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so nothing is ripped out. We are often asked to deal with grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and grout washed out of a shower, on wet rooms, tiled floors and shower walls.
Somewhere as small as Stonor, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Do you need regrouting in Stonor?
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
If you live in an older home near Pishill Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Questions to ask before booking
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- The length of the guarantee
- How the colour is chosen
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
The process
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on. The job usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere as small as Stonor, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear the area around the work
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Looking after it afterwards
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough so early action pays.
Stonor homes and their sealant
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

What we can’t put right
Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Tiles that are chipped or split
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Surfaces we seal
- Tiled floors
- Shower walls
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Bathroom floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Wet rooms
What affects the quote in Stonor
We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- The type of sealant required
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Any mould that needs treating
- The number and length of the joints
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.
What we need to know
You do not need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- If someone has resealed it before
- The rough size of the job
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
Every job is quoted individually. Simply call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and describe the job and send pictures if you have them.

What else we do in Stonor
Stonor: your questions answered
Do you cover Stonor for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Stonor is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
What guarantee comes with regrouting in Stonor?
All our work, in Stonor and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?
You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before they get wet.
Which products do you use?
It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
Should corners be grouted or sealed?
Flexible sealant. Grout belongs between the tiles and moving joints need sealant.
Is resealing included with regrouting?
Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.
How the job changes by surface
Bathroom floors
Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We look for loose tiles first.
Corners and edges
The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout there would crack.
Why act early in Stonor
Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Stonor, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first.
