Regrouting for homes and businesses in Northend

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. We’re often asked to deal with grout in a colour the owner wants to change and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, across wet rooms, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles.

Around Northend, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Northend homes and their sealant

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Whether the job is in Northend itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

When to call us in Northend

Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Around Northend, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

10 questions to ask before you book

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.

Why deal with it now?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout generally comes back. New grout, with silicone in the corners, deals with the cause. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Northend, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

Questions from Northend

Do you cover Northend for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Northend is part of that. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in Northend?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex, and grout there cracks.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We will show you which ones before any grout comes out.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

What sealant do you use?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

We give you a time before we leave. It depends on the grout and the sealant used, so follow the time we give you.

What does regrouting cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a short description of the job.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout

Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

What affects the quote in Northend

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • The rough size of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

What sealant work can’t fix

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms

What happens on the day

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a village or hamlet like Northend, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
