What regrouting looks like in Small Hythe

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

Managing a site like Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near Church of St John the Baptist, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Small Hythe is about 10 miles south-west of Ashford, in Kent. Jobs in Small Hythe get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. 922 places in Kent are on our list. Regrouting in Small Hythe, done properly

When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the discolouration has generally soaked into the grout. New grout is the fix that lasts and you can pick a different colour while you are at it. We work on bathroom wall tiles, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom floors, and the jobs we see most are good tiles let down by tired grout and shower grout that has worn away.

Being in a small place like Small Hythe makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Silicone being applied where a shower enclosure meets beige wall tiles

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

What happens if it’s left?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Small Hythe, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Surface by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The worktop edge is finished with silicone.

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but still stain and crack. New grout freshens them up.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Small Hythe, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

How to prepare

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
