Regrouting in Rock-a-Nore: local notes
Rock-a-Nore is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.
Rented homes near Ore station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. For an older house near a landmark such as Ebenezer Particular Baptist Chapel, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What we cannot put right
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. It will not solve:

- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Movement in a stud wall or floor
If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think.

Leave it or put it right?
Regrouting won’t help where tiles have come away. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. In a smaller place like Rock-a-Nore, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Inside, a split seal lets water into floors and panels just as it would anywhere.
No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.
Why us?
- Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
- We leave the area clean and tidy
- Old sealant always removed completely
- More than 20 years in sealant work

What guarantee comes with the work?
Our one-year guarantee covers every job.
Do you grout the corners?
Flexible sealant. Grout is for the joints between tiles, while corners and edges need a joint that can move.

Where do you work from?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Rock-a-Nore, along with the rest of our area.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.
Surface by surface
Bathroom floors
If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We look for loose tiles first.
Kitchen splashbacks
Splashback grout picks up grease and cooking stains. Stained grout is best replaced.
When to call us in Rock-a-Nore
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.
Keep an eye out for these signs:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
Schools such as Ark Castledown Primary Academy are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
What your quote should include
- Whether they’re fully insured
- When the joint can take water or movement
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Whether VAT is included
What affects the cost of regrouting
We do not publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- Whether the work is at height
- The type of sealant required
- The size of the job
- The number of rooms or windows
We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
What we need to know
To make quoting easier, please include:
- How we’d reach the joints
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The type of property
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you are ready, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
Aftercare tips
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.
How the visit works
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a smaller place like Rock-a-Nore, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Before we arrive
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
