Regrouting in Privett

What regrouting looks like in Privett

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Privett is about 5 miles north-west of Petersfield, in Hampshire. If you need regrouting in Privett, it’s easy to get a quote: please phone 0345 464 0079 or email us. Regrouting for homes and businesses in Privett

Grout fills the gaps between tiles, while sealant goes where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop. When grout cracks or washes out, water can get in behind the tiles. Our job is to rake it out and put new grout in and renew the silicone at the edges. If you have grout that’s cracking and breaking up and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can help, whatever the surface.

In a village or hamlet like Privett, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

Privett: your questions answered

Is Privett within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Petersfield station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details for a clear quote.

Do I have to be there?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we’re fully insured too.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can be quoted together.

What guarantee comes with the work?

Our one-year guarantee applies to all our work, and we’re fully insured.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and go gently on the grout at first.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

When to call us in Privett

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles

Rented homes near Petersfield station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Why act early in Privett

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but patched grout rarely matches the rest, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. In a small place like Privett, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Combining jobs into one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

How the visit works

We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we are working on. The job usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a village or hamlet like Privett, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Tell us about any water getting in

What we can’t put right

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
