Regrouting in Ifield, done properly

Regrouting is normally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they need flexible silicone instead. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We are often asked to deal with shower grout that has worn away and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and bathroom floors.

Homes around Ifield range from older cottages to more recent houses. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Ifield questions

Should the sealant in an older Ifield home be renewed?

If it hasn’t been replaced for some years, it’s generally worth it. Sealant doesn’t last for ever, and its life depends on use, cleaning and weather, and many homes in Ifield may already be on their second or third set.

Do you cover smaller places like Ifield?

Yes, Ifield is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

How long does regrouting take?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We will tell you what we’re using and why.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes. Many customers do. A darker grout hides marks better, while lighter grout brightens a room.

Do the sealants smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

Will it make a mess?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Where the property is
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Roughly how big the job is

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

The process

At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, depending on the size of the job. A visit to Ifield is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Getting ready for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Regrouting in Ifield: local notes

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Ifield. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Schools such as St Margaret's CofE Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Homes close to St Margaret's Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Honest limits

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Cracked or broken tiles

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Tiled floors

DIY versus a professional finish

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Leave it or put it right?

Regrouting won’t help where tiles have come away. We will tell you before we start so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Homes in smaller places like Ifield can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Indoors, a failed seal lets water into floors and panels as it would anywhere.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Small problems with grout are quick to put right. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.

Signs you need regrouting in Ifield

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Rented homes near Ifield station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What your quote should include

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
