How we handle regrouting in Hucking

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We’re often asked to deal with floor grout that has worn and darkened and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, across kitchen splashbacks, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles.

In a village or hamlet like Hucking, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Regrouting around Hucking

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Homes close to Church of St Margaret include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Hucking is about 5 miles south-west of Sittingbourne, in Kent. We carry out regrouting for homes and businesses in Hucking and the surrounding area. Hucking is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. For nearby work, see our Chelmsford page.

Here we cover the ME17 postcode area for regrouting. Nearby, we also carry out regrouting in Bicknor (1 mile east), Broad Street (1 mile south-west), Hollingbourne (2 miles south), Wormshill (2 miles east) and Eyhorne Street (2 miles south). The process

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we’re doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. The work usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere as small as Hucking, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Why deal with it now?

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. In a small place like Hucking, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

What we cannot put right

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What we seal

  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls

DIY sealant or a professional job?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

How we quote for regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How much there is to do
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Which sealant suits the joint

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Roughly how big the job is

Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we will come back to you with a quote.

Do you need regrouting in Hucking?

Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles

Do you work for landlords with property near Hollingbourne station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear quote.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is usually more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. We remove it all first.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Which products do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.
