Regrouting in Hound Green

How we handle regrouting in Hound Green

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are grout that makes sound tiles look old and corners filled with grout instead of silicone.

Being in a small place like Hound Green makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we are there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

When something else is needed

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Hound Green

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you let a flat or house near Hook station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. For an older house near a landmark such as Mattingley Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hound Green can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Regrouting a wet room helps keep water on the surface of the tiles. It cannot fix waterproofing below the tiles.

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so grout there works hardest. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Your questions about regrouting in Hound Green

Can you do regrouting in Hound Green?

Yes, Hound Green is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Do you cover smaller places like Hound Green?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is the work guaranteed?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, including regrouting.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Do I have to be there?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels in Hound Green.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Movement, water and weather all affect the choice, and we’ll explain our choice.

How we quote for regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • The type of sealant required
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Access and height

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before any work starts.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add pictures by email if you can.

How the visit works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The job generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, including the tidy-up. Somewhere like Hound Green needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
