Regrouting for homes and businesses in Gubblecote

Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. Common call-outs are for discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, across shower walls, wet rooms and bathroom floors.

Homes around Gubblecote are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Looking after it afterwards

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough, so it’s worth acting early.

The process

Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a village or hamlet like Gubblecote, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any tricky access

Regrouting in Gubblecote: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Long Marston VA Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. If you live in an older home near St Cross, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Rented homes near Cheddington station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Gubblecote: your questions answered

Will you come out to Gubblecote?

Yes, Gubblecote is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you cover Gubblecote for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Gubblecote is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our one-year guarantee covers every job.

Do you grout the corners?

We seal corners with silicone. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It generally fails first.

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.

Can I do it myself?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Leave it or put it right?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Older cottages and farmhouses around Gubblecote can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.
