How we handle regrouting in Golden Green

Before we start, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you are dealing with shower grout that has worn away and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles, we can put it right, on shower walls, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms alike.

For a small place like Golden Green, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.

Golden Green: your questions answered

Do you cover Golden Green for regrouting?

Yes, Golden Green is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us what needs doing.

Is Golden Green within the area you cover?

Yes. Golden Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first.

How long does the job take?

Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Why deal with it now?

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Older cottages and farmhouses around Golden Green can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a village or hamlet like Golden Green, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that’s easy.

Advice

Looking after it afterwards

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so its grout takes the most punishment. It usually fails first.

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Common problems we fix in Golden Green

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout

Letting a property close to Beltring station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What to look for in a quote

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
