Regrouting in Fifield

About our regrouting in Fifield

Across Fifield, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on tiled floors, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and grout washed out of a shower.

Being in a small place like Fifield makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Fifield and across Oxfordshire.

The process

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can get on with your day. The job generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere as small as Fifield, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Fifield questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Shipton station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you cover Fifield for regrouting?

Yes, Fifield is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.

What should I tell you?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we’ll say how long yours will take.

Do I need to be at home?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, that is common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

In most cases, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Where do you work from?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

When to call us in Fifield

Grout that was put in corners cracks because those joints flex. Those joints should be silicone, and if they’re grouted, a crack soon lets water in.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob

Letting a property close to Shipton station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first

Our hiring checklist

What happens if it’s left?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you are looking at retiling. Dealing with it now keeps it small. Older cottages and farmhouses around Fifield can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Landlord and commercial work in Fifield

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Fifield

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around Church of St John the Baptist, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

When it isn’t the sealant

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Movement in a stud wall or floor
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A leaking shower valve or waste

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Corners and edges

We reseal edges at the same time as regrouting, so the whole area is finished together.

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
