How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

We will tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.

Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Crowell Hill

Regrouting is normally paired with resealing. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they need flexible silicone instead. Doing both at once leaves the whole area sound. We’re often asked to deal with greasy, stained grout behind the hob and a grout colour that no longer suits the room, across bathroom floors, wet rooms and bathroom wall tiles.

Somewhere as small as Crowell Hill, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

How the job changes by surface

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.

Wet rooms

Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.

When something else is needed

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A leaking wet room membrane

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Questions from Crowell Hill

Is Crowell Hill in your area for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Crowell Hill is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Do you cover smaller places like Crowell Hill?

Yes. Crowell Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?

Yes, we often do. The shower usually fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Where are you based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Crowell Hill, along with the rest of our area.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Crowell Hill needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Advice

What affects the quote in Crowell Hill

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Which sealant suits the joint

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • If someone has resealed it before

For a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before we start.

Common problems we fix in Crowell Hill

A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

Homes close to Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
