About our regrouting in Cadder

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, because regrouting won’t fix what’s behind them. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you have a grout colour that no longer suits the room and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, we can help, whatever the surface.

From stone-built tenements to new flats and suburban houses, Cadder is in a city with every kind of home. Scottish water is generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas, but mould still grows into sealant and grout in a steamy bathroom.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Cadder

Sandstone tenements are a big part of Glasgow’s housing, where most bathrooms sit above another flat. Cadder has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

If you look after a building such as John Paul Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

FAQs for Cadder

Could a leaking bath seal in my Cadder flat reach the neighbours below?

Yes, it can. In a tenement, water that gets past failed sealant or cracked grout can run under the bath or tray and through to the ceiling below. Replacing tired sealant early is the simplest way to avoid that.

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Cadder?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Is it messy?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

We can. We will check the other tiled areas as well and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Do you grout the corners?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex and grout cannot take that movement.

How long does the job take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we’ll say how long yours will take.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Cadder?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You will get a clear quote before we start.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Common problems we fix in Cadder

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before work begins.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned

Letting a property close to Gilshochill station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

What your quote should include

  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first

Our hiring checklist

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.

Kitchen splashbacks

The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.

How it works

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. It usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Many homes in Scotland’s cities are tenement flats, reached through a shared close and up a common stair. For a job in Cadder, tell us the floor, how the door entry system works and where we can park nearby.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Advice

Quotes for regrouting in Cadder

We don’t publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The address or postcode of the job

Asking for a quote is easy: tell us what needs doing and where, and roughly how big it is. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we’ll take it from there.
