About our regrouting in Ayton

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, with silicone renewed in the corners. Typical jobs include greasy, stained grout behind the hob and old grout in a dated colour, across kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and wet rooms.

For a place like Ayton, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after we have gone.

Honest limits

We’d rather tell you now than do work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom wall tiles

How to look after the new joints

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Use a gentle cleaner on the grout with a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it, as they can break grout down.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

Questions from Ayton

Will you come out to Ayton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Reston station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

How long does the job take?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We will confirm how long when we quote.

Should I try DIY first?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

How much does regrouting cost in Ayton?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so good grout is important. We check for loose tiles before starting.

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but grout there still discolours. New grout freshens them up.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. For a place like Ayton, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access and height
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Where the property is
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you’re ready, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Leave it or put it right?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. In a place like Ayton, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Ayton

Ayton is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

If you let a flat or house near Reston station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. Homes close to Ayton Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
