Regrouting for Aston Tirrold homes and businesses

What we do, step by step

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere as small as Aston Tirrold, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Preparing for the visit

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. You might go from white to grey or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. Common call-outs are for dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, across tiled floors, bathroom floors and shower walls.

Homes around Aston Tirrold are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Wet rooms

Wet room grout and sealant need to be in good order. We replace the grout and reseal the edges.

Regrouting around Aston Tirrold

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Rented homes near Cholsey station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you live in an older home near Church of St Michael, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Why it’s worth doing now in Aston Tirrold

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. In a small place like Aston Tirrold, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What affects the cost of regrouting

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • Access and height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The product the joint needs

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start.

Asking for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Where the property is

We quote each job on its own. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details, and pictures are welcome.

Common questions in Aston Tirrold

Do you work for landlords with property near Cholsey station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.

Do you cover Aston Tirrold for regrouting?

Yes, Aston Tirrold is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has usually failed. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer and we will say so before going ahead.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes. Many customers do. Darker grout can hide marks, while lighter grout brightens a room.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. If you can, email a few pictures.

How long does regrouting take?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering

A squeegee or cloth over the tiles after use keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
