Bathroom resealing in TW14: how it works

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are damp behind the bath or under the tray and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop.

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

What you’ll pay

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What you get with us

  • White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
  • We agree the colour with you first
  • Full insurance on every job
  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild

Where we work in TW14

Our bathroom resealing work across TW14 covers homes, rentals and businesses, in Feltham, Bedfont and Hatton and well beyond. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.

From Victorian terraces to post-war new towns and modern estates, homes across the South East and London cover every era. Each needs the right sealant for its age and materials.

Feltham: If you live in an older home near Christ Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. Feltham is in London, so parking needs planning: let us know about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

Leave it or put it right?

Most of the work in a good reseal happens before any silicone goes on: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What happens if the job turns out different

Signs you need bathroom resealing

Plenty of failed sealant has been laid over the top of older sealant. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile

When something else is needed

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in TW14

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, including cutting out the old sealant. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Do you work in TW14?
