Our bathroom resealing service in HS8

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We are often asked to deal with water getting behind the bath panel and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting, on sinks & splashbacks, baths and wet rooms.

Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

What affects the price in HS8

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Around Loch Baghasdail, our work takes us to homes and buildings near South Uist, among other places. Nearby you’ll also find Calvay Castle (1.8 miles south-east). The countryside around Loch Baghasdail includes Beinn Ruigh Choinnich and Loch Stulaval.

Where we work in HS8

HS8 has homes of every age, old and new, and in places like Loch Baghasdail, Lochboisdale and Geirinis there’s plenty of rented property too. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.

We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and HS8 is part of that. Longer journeys are planned in advance, and outdoor work around the weather. HS8 includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Joints on seaward walls tend to fail first.

Loch Baghasdail: In and around Loch Baghasdail, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Whether the job is in Loch Baghasdail itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Whether the work is at height
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that’s easy.

Common problems we fix in HS8

With age, silicone loses its stretch. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead

What happens if it’s left?

Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it can’t stick to what’s underneath. Water creeps under it and mould follows, so the next person has twice as much to remove.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long to leave it before use
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It will not solve:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans away from the silicone. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning normally won’t remove it. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

FAQs for HS8

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is usually more efficient.

Do you work in HS8?

Yes. We cover HS8, as part of our work across South East England, London and Scotland. For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Will there be a smell?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures. Opening a window helps.

How long will the resealing take?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White and clear are the most common choices, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. Worktops, sinks and splashbacks are all part of the job, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.
