New build mastic in Wick, done properly

Building dust is behind a lot of failed new-build sealant. We clean every joint thoroughly and prime where the surface and product need it, so the sealant actually sticks. We work on skirting & floors, kitchens and show homes, and common reasons people get in touch are shower seals failing in the first year or two and worktop and upstand sealant coming away.

Homes around Wick range from older cottages to newer houses, and their floors range just as widely, from timber that moves with the seasons to tiles laid on concrete. Skirting and threshold joints need a sealant that suits the floor.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Common problems we fix in Wick

Not every new-build joint gets the right sealant: decorators’ caulk in a wet area, or a stiff sealant where there’s movement. Both fail early.

The problems people normally mention when they call include:

  • Gaps opening as the house dries out and settles
  • Gaps behind new kitchen upstands
  • Internal frame sealant that has split
  • Cracked caulk along new skirting

Around Wick, as everywhere, new build mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

New homes and floors in Wick

Wick is within about 2 miles of the coast. New homes near the sea put their outside mastic to work from day one, so it’s worth checking at snagging. London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

If you’ve bought a new home near Littlehampton station, the sealant around baths, showers and frames is worth checking in the first year or two.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. Several properties can go on one quote.

From a single let to a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

When something else is needed

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Broken tiles or a split tray
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes, which need a plumber
  • Settlement cracks that need a surveyor

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think before you book.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Aftercare tips

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Open a window or run the fan after bathing
  • Keep water off fresh sealant until it has cured
  • Watch for new gaps as the house dries out
  • Get a leaking seal dealt with straight away

Watch the joints as the house settles. Hairline gaps can open as timber and plaster dry and can be resealed later.

Early snagging is easier snagging. Small faults turn into leaks if left in a busy bathroom.

Common questions in Wick

Can you do new build mastic in Wick?

Yes, Wick is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Littlehampton station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.

Can new sealant go on top of the old bead?

No. Fresh silicone does not stick to the old layer, so sealing over the top fails quickly. We cut the old bead out completely.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

Should I go to my builder first?

If you are still within the builder’s snagging or warranty period, report it to them first. If it isn’t sorted, or keeps failing, get in touch with us.

Do you work through snagging lists?

Yes. Snagging lists are a common starting point for us. We will go through the sealant items and agree what we will do.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Wick, along with the rest of our area.

How we quote for new build mastic

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether the work is at height

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you are ready, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What happens on the day

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots and we leave things clean and tidy. A visit to Wick is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First we work through your snagging list or plot schedule with you.
  2. Failed or untidy sealant is cut out completely.
  3. Each joint is cleaned of dust and grit, then primed if required.
  4. We apply a sealant that suits each joint and tool it to a neat finish.
  5. Each area is checked and left with its cure time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Getting a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.
