About our new build mastic in Stow

Developers send us the plot schedule and we work through it. We seal bathrooms, kitchens, windows, doors and skirting so plots are ready to hand over. We work on windows & doors, skirting & floors and plot handovers, and common reasons people get in touch are messy sealant that spoils new finishes and cracks appearing as a new home settles.

Many newer homes in Scotland are timber-framed and settle as they dry out, which shows as gaps at skirtings and floor joints. Older stone-built homes, meanwhile, often have timber floors that move with the seasons.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

How the visit works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots. For a place like Stow, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. First, the list of joints is agreed from your snagging sheet or plot schedule.
  2. Every bit of the old builder’s sealant is cut out down to clean surfaces.
  3. Joints are vacuumed and cleaned of building dust.
  4. We prime where needed and apply a sealant suited to each joint.
  5. We tool every joint neatly and tell you when each area can be used.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Stow questions

Do you cover Stow for new build mastic?

Yes, Stow is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Is Stow within the area you cover?

Yes. Stow is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you use white or clear sealant?

The colour is chosen to suit the tiles, worktop or frame. Tell us what you’d like when you get a quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

When is the sealant fully cured?

It depends on the product and the conditions. Before we leave, we will tell you the cure time.

Can new sealant go on top of the old bead?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it soon lifts and traps water. We cut the old bead out completely.

How do I get a quote for new build mastic in Stow?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before resealing.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Cracked trays, tiles or worktops
  • Structural cracks in walls or ceilings
  • Plumbing faults behind the sealant

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we seal

  • Windows & doors
  • Plot handovers
  • Skirting & floors
  • Show homes
  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms & en suites

Can I do it myself?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Why it’s worth doing now in Stow

A failed shower or bath seal in a new home lets water into floors and walls that are still drying out. Dealing with it early keeps the damage away from ceilings, floors and finishes. In an older home around Stow, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Why Stow customers choose us

  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas
  • Arbo and Everbuild products
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • Colour agreed with you before any work starts
