New build mastic in Crathes, done properly

Failed shower seals, gaps along the skirting and messy beads are common items on a new-home snagging list. While the builder’s snagging or warranty period runs, report it to them first. Common call-outs are for gaps between new skirting and floors and new-build shower sealant that has already split, on show homes, skirting & floors and kitchens.

Work in a place like Crathes is planned ahead, journey included. Outdoor plot mastic needs dry weather, but indoor floor and skirting joints can be sealed whatever the forecast.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

Show homes

Bathrooms, kitchens and frames in show homes are sealed or resealed to a neat finish ready for viewings. We’ll plan around viewing times.

Kitchens

Beside the sink, the joint takes water every day. A kitchen sealant goes in there suited to the job.

FAQs for Crathes

Will you come out to Crathes?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is new build mastic in Crathes guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Should I wait before resealing?

For failed seals that let water through, the best time is now. Cosmetic gaps can wait until the first year or two of movement has passed.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Will you leave a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

My new home is still under warranty. Should I contact you?

Start with your builder while their snagging or warranty period runs. After that, or if their repair keeps failing, we can do it with our 12-month guarantee.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Crathes and the rest of Aberdeenshire.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Can I do it myself?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

How it works

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots. Outside jobs in Crathes need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. Each joint is checked for movement before we start.
  2. We remove the failed sealant and clean the joints.
  3. We make sure the joints are dry and prime them if needed.
  4. New sealant goes in, with baths filled first so they’re at their heaviest.
  5. The finished joints are checked and the cure times given.

What happens if it’s left?

A hairline gap at a skirting can wait, but a leaking seal cannot. Not sure whether yours can wait? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few pictures. In a place like Crathes, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What affects the cost of new build mastic

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The number of rooms or windows

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

Need a quote? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

When it isn’t the sealant

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder
  • Damaged fittings that need replacing
  • Baths and trays that move too much for sealant to cope with

If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Use the extractor fan every time you shower
  • Record problems with dated pictures
  • Wipe joints with warm soapy water
  • Resist patching a failed seal with a tube from the DIY shop

Leave the sealant for the cure time we give you before showering or bathing. Most silicones need around a day to cure enough for use.

A seal that splits early is often a sign of movement. Have it resealed, and the tray or bath checked, before it gets worse.
