Gutter sealing in Wick

Gutter sealing in Wick

A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but each shower sends water to the same place. Sealing it is quick if the gutter is otherwise in good order. Common call-outs are for earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off and water dripping where gutter sections meet, across uPVC fascias, gutter joints and garage door frames.

Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

How the visit works

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Somewhere like Wick may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. The sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Outside joints around Wick

Wick is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Letting a property close to Wick station? Then a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. Schools such as Wick High School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Every address in KW1 is covered for gutter sealing, from the main roads to the quietest streets. You’ll find streets such as Market Street, Argyle Square and High Street, all of which we cover. Neighbouring places we cover for gutter sealing include Whiterow (1 mile south), Staxigoe (1 mile north-east), Ackergillshore (2 miles north), Haster (3 miles west) and Reiss (3 miles north-west). Wick is one of the larger places we cover in Highland. If you’re somewhere remote, a little more planning is needed.

Why act early in Wick

A bead squeezed onto a wet joint might hold for a while but it tends to peel off. Proper preparation is the difference. Around Wick, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Why Wick clients choose us

We seal end caps from the inside where we can reach, after cleaning and drying.

Quotes for gutter sealing in Wick

You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Whether it has been sealed before

We quote each job on its own. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and pictures are welcome.

Keeping the joints in good condition

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
  • Make sure downpipes are not blocked
  • Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself

If a gutter starts to sag, get the brackets looked at. Movement will pull the joints open again.

Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we’ll tell you.
