Gutter sealing in Shoreham

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits, along with roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. If you are dealing with rain getting in around a garage door and drips from gutter joints and end caps, we can help.

Somewhere as small as Shoreham, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, where walls and rooflines take the weather head on. Joints on those walls need a sealant that moves with the building and stays in place.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Gutter joints

When a joint drips, the gutter is often still sound. Resealing is generally enough.

Shoreham: your questions answered

I let a flat near Shoreham (Kent) station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can go on one quote. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Shoreham?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available, and we agree the colour with you before work begins.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

What about gutters on a second or third storey?

Single-storey and low-level gutters are straightforward. If it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm the access.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Not on its own. A sagging gutter pulls its joints apart, so the brackets need fixing first.

Do you seal gaps in fascias and soffits?

Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a colour to suit.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year

While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. Splits are easier to seal early.

If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp inside.

Can I do it myself?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Outside joints around Shoreham

With historic houses such as Lullingstone Castle (about 1.8 miles north-east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Shoreham as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

In the older streets around Church of St Peter and St Paul, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. If you look after a building such as Shoreham Village School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

Leave it or put it right?

Replacing fascias because of open joints is generally unnecessary. Sealing the joints tidies them up if the boards are sound. In a small place like Shoreham, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

How the visit works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. For a village or hamlet like Shoreham, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Mention any tricky access

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. Several properties can be quoted together.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

When to call us in Shoreham

When a gutter sags, its joints open. Resealing a sagging joint won’t last so the brackets need attention first.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them
  • Drips from gutter joints and end caps
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

If you let a flat or house near Shoreham (Kent) station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
