Gutter Sealing in Shalstone
Our applicators work in Shalstone on sealing leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascias, soffits and roofline trims. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
- Water dripping where gutter sections meet
- Dripping gutter ends
Aftercare tips
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
- Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly
- Check that water runs out of the downpipes
- Deal with a drip before winter
Give the sealant the cure time we tell you before poking or cleaning near it.
A drip from a gutter joint will not stop on its own. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall and that can cause damp inside.
Gutter sealing in Shalstone, done properly
Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. We’re often asked to deal with open joints in fascias and soffits and old sealant on roofline trims that has split, across garage door frames, soffit joints and gutter joints.
External sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work around Shalstone is planned for dry weather. Tell us about access to all sides of the building, including outbuildings and garages.

When it isn’t the sealant
We won’t take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
- Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
- Problems with the roof covering

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What we are called out for in Shalstone
Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go so we check the cause first.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
- Streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint
- Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
- Fascia boards with gaps between them
If you live in an older home near Church of St Edward, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

Walls and rooflines in Shalstone
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast. With historic houses such as Stowe House (about 2 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Shalstone as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.
In and around Shalstone, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Why deal with it now?
A dripping gutter joint keeps wetting the same patch of wall. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Older cottages and farmhouses around Shalstone can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

The process
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The job generally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run from start to finish. Somewhere like Shalstone needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
- We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
- We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
- The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
