Gutter Sealing in Reay
We cover Reay for sealing leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascias, soffits and roofline trims. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and a 12-month guarantee.
- Drips from gutter joints and end caps
- Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint
- Failed sealant on a garage door frame
Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Reay
For gutter sealant to hold, the joint has to be clean and dry. So the old sealant and grime come out first, then dry the joint before sealing. We work on garage door frames, gutter joints and soffit joints, and people most often call us about quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last and internal damp traced to a gutter joint.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Reay as everywhere else we work.

When it isn’t the sealant
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Fascias that need replacing
- Blocked downpipes
- A gutter length that has split
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- Glance at the soffit joints now and then
- Clean out the gutters once or twice a year
- Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
- Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself
Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked so the gutter can drain. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.
The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we will tell you.
Reay buildings and the weather
Reay is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
In the older streets around Reay Parish Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.
Reay is about 10 miles west of Thurso, in Highland. Across the KW14 area, we can carry out gutter sealing at your property. Across Highland, we cover 253 places, Reay among them.

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
What we do, step by step
Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outdoor work around Reay depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter isn’t broken or sagging.
- Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
- The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
- Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
- We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.
How to prepare
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Mention any parking rules near the property

Leave it or put it right?
Replacing guttering is a much bigger job than sealing joints. Where the gutter is in good order and only a joint leaks a reseal is all it needs. If it has failed, we will tell you. In an older home around Reay, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
What you get with us
