Common questions in Hattoncrook

Will you come out to Hattoncrook?

Yes, Hattoncrook is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you do gutter sealing in Hattoncrook?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Hattoncrook is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can you reach high gutters?

Low gutters are simple to reach. For higher work, tell us about access and we will confirm what’s needed.

Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?

Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a colour to suit.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured.

When is the sealant fully cured?

That depends on the sealant used, so follow the cure time we give you.

How much does gutter sealing cost in Hattoncrook?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Can sealant stop a sagging gutter leaking?

It won’t last. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

How we handle gutter sealing in Hattoncrook

Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Resealing the joint is often all it needs, as long as the gutter is sound. Common call-outs are for internal damp traced to a gutter joint and earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off, on soffit joints, uPVC fascias and roofline trims.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. Newer houses need their movement joints and roofline trims kept sound.

All our work comes with a 12-month guarantee.

Different surfaces, different methods

uPVC fascias

We seal fascia joints, not replace the boards. If boards are damaged, we’ll tell you.

Soffit joints

We choose a sealant colour that suits the soffit, where one is available.

What we are called out for in Hattoncrook

Debris in the gutter keeps water sitting at the joints. Water that can’t drain works its way through a weak joint and leaks out.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Fascia boards with gaps between them
  • Dripping gutter ends

For an older house near a landmark such as All Saints Episcopal Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters

Give the sealant the cure time we tell you and avoid disturbing it.

A drip from a gutter joint will not stop on its own. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall, which can lead to staining and damp.

Gutter sealing in Hattoncrook: local notes

Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface. Aberdeen’s nickname, the Granite City, comes from its stone buildings, and granite is hard and dense, so any sealant against it needs clean, sound edges to grip.

If you let a flat or house near Inverurie station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside.

Hattoncrook is about 5 miles east of Inverurie, in Aberdeen. Every kind of property in Hattoncrook can book us for gutter sealing. The work is guaranteed for a year. Our Aberdeen coverage runs to 63 places, Hattoncrook among them. Our Aberdeen page covers work nearby.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • A gutter length that has split
  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • uPVC fascias
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The size of the job
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Any mould that needs treating

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • The type of property
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Why act early in Hattoncrook

You don’t need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Resealing the frame joint is often enough. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

Why book with us

  • A choice of colours where the product allows
  • We never seal over old sealant

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Outside jobs in Hattoncrook need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
  5. We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any tricky access
