Outside joints around Gartmore

Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for gutter, fascia and roofline joints to keep out.

Homes close to Gartmore Parish Church include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Around Gartmore, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Gartmore is about 15 miles north-east of Dumbarton, in Stirling. Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Gartmore

Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. They’re sealed in a matching colour where one is available. If you are dealing with internal damp traced to a gutter joint and failed sealant on a garage door frame, we can put it right.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

What we cannot put right

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • Problems with the roof covering
  • Sagging gutters or broken brackets
  • Boards that have decayed or split

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Roofline trims
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter end caps
  • uPVC fascias

How it works

On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before we start. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. For a place like Gartmore, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We find where the water is coming from and check the gutter is sound.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice

How we quote for gutter sealing

You will get a clear quote before work begins. It takes into account:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The number of rooms or windows

We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we need to know

When you contact us, these details help:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

If you’re in Gartmore and need gutter sealing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Gartmore

Landlords and letting agents in Gartmore can book us as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies keeps a property looking cared for.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. Several properties can be quoted together.

Why act early in Gartmore

You don’t need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Sealing the frame generally stops it. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What you get with us

  • You choose the colour before work begins
  • An ARBOMaster approved applicator
  • Tidy, careful work
  • Old sealant always removed completely

Surface by surface

Roofline trims

Sealing roofline trims is joint work only. A roofer deals with the roof itself.

Soffit joints

We choose a sealant colour that suits the soffit.
