Different surfaces, different methods

Gutter end caps

A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.

Gutter joints

Most gutter leaks start at a joint between sections. We clean, dry and reseal them.

Gutter sealing in Elsted, done properly

We seal leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascia and soffit joints, along with roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work rather than new guttering. Common call-outs are for quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last and dripping gutter ends, on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and garage door frames.

In a village or hamlet like Elsted, older cottages and farm buildings often stand in the open, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Elsted, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

How the visit works

Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, and the area is left clean. In a small place like Elsted, access is usually the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

How to prepare

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Advice

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

How to look after the new joints

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:

  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Make sure downpipes are not blocked
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise and avoid disturbing it.

A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches.

Signs you need gutter sealing in Elsted

Gutter joints depend on seals that wear out. Sun and cold make the gutter expand and contract, and old seals crack or slip.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Open joints in fascias and soffits
  • Cracked sealant along roofline trims
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off
  • Failed sealant on a garage door frame

In the older streets around The Parish Church of St Paul, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Before booking anyone

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why

Our hiring checklist

What happens if it’s left?

A bead squeezed onto a wet joint might hold for a while, but it soon lets go. Cleaning out and drying the joint first is what makes it last. Older cottages and farmhouses around Elsted can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Elsted

Is gutter sealing in Elsted guaranteed?

All our work, in Elsted and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Elsted within the area you cover?

Yes. Elsted is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes, often. Several properties can go on one quote.

How long does gutter sealing take?

Most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including preparation and clearing up. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Do you replace gutters or fascias?

We do not replace gutters or fascias. If a gutter is broken or sagging, we will tell you.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

Sealant will not hold a sagging gutter. A gutter installer needs to refix it, and we will tell you if that is what we find.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Gutter sealing in Elsted: local notes

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind. With historic houses such as Uppark (about 2.7 miles south-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Elsted as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.
