How we handle gutter sealing in East Haven

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work, not replacing the gutter. We’re often asked to deal with failed sealant on a garage door frame and water running down the wall below the gutter, on garage door frames, uPVC fascias and soffit joints.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in East Haven depends on the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Angus.

East Haven questions

Is East Haven within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like East Haven any different?

Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.

Do you clean gutters?

The joints we seal are cleaned out and clear debris we find nearby. Cleaning the whole run is a different job.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

How long does gutter sealing take?

Typically it takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

No. A sagging gutter pulls its joints apart, so the brackets need fixing first.

Should I try it myself first?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

Gutter sealing in East Haven: local notes

East Haven is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

If you let a flat or house near Carnoustie station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Carnoustie High School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

East Haven is about 4 miles south-west of Arbroath, in Angus. Whether you’re in the middle of East Haven or further out, we cover gutter sealing for every kind of property, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Our area takes in 40 places across Angus. For nearby work, see our Dundee page.

Soffit joints

Soffit joints are sealed in a colour to suit, where one is available.

Gutter end caps

A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.

The process

On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work starts. Most jobs take an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Somewhere like East Haven may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Advice

Aftercare tips

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself
  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Clean out the gutters once or twice a year

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. It’s the easiest time to see a leak.

Leaking gutter joints get worse over time. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall, which can lead to staining and damp.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured for the work.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

When something else is needed

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)
  • Blocked downpipes
  • Boards that have decayed or split

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Access and height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

The cost depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

What we need to know

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The problem you’ve noticed

If you are in East Haven and need gutter sealing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before any work starts.
