How we handle gutter sealing in Dalreoch
Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Often a reseal is enough if the gutter is not damaged. If you are dealing with stop ends leaking at the end of a run and old sealant on roofline trims that has split, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.
Every job is covered by our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in West Dunbartonshire.

Keeping the joints in good condition
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Have sagging gutters refixed early
- Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
- Make sure downpipes are not blocked
- Keep ladders off the guttering
Keep downpipes clear so the gutter can drain. Blockages push water back along the gutter.
If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp.
When it is not the sealant
To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:
- Sagging gutters or broken brackets
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
- Blocked downpipes
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Should I try it myself first?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
What happens if it’s left?
A dripping gutter joint keeps wetting the same patch of wall. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. In a place like Dalreoch, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Dalreoch buildings and the weather
Dalreoch is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
Homes close to Dalreoch Church include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.
