About our gutter sealing in Collydean

Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s all about the joints, not replacing the gutter. Common call-outs are for cracked sealant along roofline trims and dripping gutter ends, on roofline trims, gutter end caps and uPVC fascias.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

FAQs for Collydean

I let a flat near Markinch station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.

Is Collydean in your area for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Collydean is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Will sealing fix a sagging gutter?

Sealant will not hold a sagging gutter. A gutter installer needs to refix it, and we will tell you if that’s what we find.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?

Yes, often alongside gutter joints. The gaps are cleaned and sealed neatly.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you need gutter sealing in Collydean?

Sagging sections pull joints apart. Resealing a sagging joint will not last so the brackets need attention first.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
  • Stop ends leaking at the end of a run
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

Schools such as Glenrothes High School are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

How the visit works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the work takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run in most cases. Outdoor work around Collydean depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter is not damaged.
  2. The old sealant and dirt are cleaned out of the joint.
  3. The joint is dried before sealing.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. We check the run and clear debris near the joints.

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Deal with a drip before winter
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Make sure downpipes are not blocked

Give the sealant the cure time we tell you before poking or cleaning near it.

A leaking stop end is best sealed before the wet months. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

What gutter sealing looks like in Collydean

Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

Letting a property close to Markinch station? Then leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.

When it isn’t the sealant

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Blocked downpipes
  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What the job involves on each surface

Gutter joints

Gutter joints move and sit in water. A gutter sealant made for the job holds best.

Garage door frames

Garage door frames let rain in when their sealant fails. It’s removed and renewed.
