Roofline trims
Sealing roofline trims is joint work only. Roofing problems need a roofer.
Soffit joints
Soffits sit under the eaves, where joints can open up. They’re sealed to tidy the line.
Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in An Tairbeart
A drip at a gutter joint is easy to ignore, but each shower sends water to the same place. Sealing it is quick while the gutter is still sound. We work on soffit joints, gutter joints and roofline trims, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked sealant along roofline trims and open joints in fascias and soffits.
Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

An Tairbeart questions
Does the coastal weather in An Tairbeart affect outside sealant?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Do you cover smaller places like An Tairbeart?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you work for landlords and businesses?
Yes, we do. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do, and we are fully insured.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
Normally, yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available, and we agree the colour with you before work begins.
Can you seal fascia and soffit joints?
Yes, it’s a common job. Each joint is cleaned and sealed.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Is there any odour?
That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

What gutter sealing looks like in An Tairbeart
An Tairbeart is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
Whether the job is in An Tairbeart itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

What we’re called out for in An Tairbeart
Overflowing gutters can look like leaking joints. A blocked downpipe makes water back up, which is why we look before we seal.
The problems people usually mention when they call are:
- End caps that drip every time it rains
- Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
- Garage door frames letting rain in
Around An Tairbeart, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Watch for drips in a downpour
- Keep downpipes clear
- Look for streaks or damp on the wall below gutters
Keep downpipes clear so the gutter can drain. Blockages push water back along the gutter.
Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. We’ll let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.
How it works
We keep the work tidy and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access, and we explain the cure time before we leave. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- The sealant is applied and finished.
- We check our work before we leave.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Leave it or put it right?
Leaving a leaking end cap can send water down the wall all winter. Resealing it is a quick job before the damage spreads. In a place like An Tairbeart, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Honest limits
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- Sagging gutters or broken brackets
- Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
