What affects the quote in Ware

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Access and height
  • The product the joint needs
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you are ready, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Glazing silicone in Ware, done properly

Cracked, stained or lifting silicone on glass looks poor and can leak. We remove it without scratching the glass or frame and reseal the joint. Typical jobs include glass-to-glass joints that have split and failed sealant around rooflight glass, across glass-to-glass joints, shower screens and glass-to-frame joints.

Around Ware, many houses have gained conservatories, French doors or replacement windows over time. Each one adds more joints to look after, and those joints age at different rates. Leaks generally start at a sill, a frame head or a glazing joint.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

FAQs for Ware

Is there a guarantee on glazing silicone in Ware?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Ware station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Can you just put new silicone over the old?

Topping up is a common cause of leaks. A proper job means cutting out, cleaning and resealing.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Is balustrade sealant something you do?

We can. The old sealant is removed and the joint resealed with a suitable product.

Do you come to Ware?

We do. Ware is part of the area we cover.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Why deal with it now?

Resealing cannot fix a failed unit or a cracked panel. We will tell you that rather than seal it anyway, so you can call the right trade. In Ware, as anywhere, most leaks start as a small gap in a joint, and early is when they’re cheapest and quickest to sort.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Keep scrapers and blades away from the silicone
  • Check the silicone on glass every year or so
  • Get a new leak looked at quickly

On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and keep the room ventilated. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Shower screen leaks can go unnoticed. It can damage the floor or the ceiling below long before you see it.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Ware homes and the weather

Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Schools such as Christ Church CofE (VA) Primary School and Nursery are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s. If you let a flat or house near Ware station, leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.

What happens on the day

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. A visit in Ware needs access to the work and a place to park close by. For outside work, let us know about side access, gates and any upper-floor joints.

  1. We start by finding the leak and making sure sealant is the cause.
  2. Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
  3. We clean the joint with a solvent that suits the glass and frame.
  4. We apply a neutral-cure glazing silicone and tool it smooth.
  5. We look over every joint and, where we can, test it with water.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Cracked or broken glass
  • Failed flashing around a conservatory
  • A frame that needs repairing or replacing

If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower screens
  • Rooflights
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Conservatory frames

Do you need glazing silicone in Ware?

Using a sealant not made for glass causes many failures. Some products do not bond well to glass, and acetoxy types can attack some frame materials.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame
  • Sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed
  • Shower screens leaking along the wall or tray
  • Silicone pulling away from the glass

For an older house near a landmark such as Christ Church Ware, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

What your quote should include

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
