Glazing silicone in Rumford, done properly
We work across Rumford on glazing joints for homes and businesses. Conservatories, rooflights, glass panels and shower screens are all part of the job, with a sealant chosen for the joint. We work on glass-to-glass joints, glass-to-frame joints and conservatory frames, and common reasons people get in touch are failed joints on frameless glass and leaking glazing joints on a rooflight.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What we’re called out for in Rumford
New silicone over old silicone will not bond. Plenty of leaks come from a quick top-up over the old bead leaving a path for water.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame
- Water tracking down the inner face of the glass
- Rooflight joints letting water in
- Leaks from the base of a shower screen
Letting a property close to Polmont station? Then leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies.
What your quote should include
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- What guarantee comes with the work
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Look over the glazing joints once a year
- Use gentle products around the joints
- Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
- Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
Gentle products are best near the sealant. Harsh solvents may damage the bead.
If silicone on glass has cracked, water is already getting in. Resealing now is a small job compared with fixing water damage later.
What the job involves on each surface
Glass-to-frame joints
The sealant must stick to glass and frame alike. We choose a product that suits both.
Rooflights
Water around a rooflight is not always the sealant. We find the cause first.
What we do, step by step
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and tidy away. It usually takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Rumford may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- First, we trace the leak and check it’s coming through a sealant joint.
- We cut out the failed silicone, taking care of the glass and frame.
- Surfaces are cleaned with a solvent suited to glass and the frame.
- Glazing silicone suited to the joint is applied and tooled.
- The finished joints are checked and, where it’s safe, tested with water.
Preparing for the visit
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Mention any tricky access
- Mention any parking rules near the property

Your questions about glazing silicone in Rumford
I let a flat near Polmont station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Does living near the coast affect glazing silicone in Rumford?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.
Why not top up the existing silicone?
A top-up rarely holds. The new bead can’t grip the old one so we take it all out and start clean.
Do you replace glass?
Glass replacement isn’t our trade. We look after the sealant joints and can tell you if a unit seems to have gone.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.
Do you work in Rumford?
Yes. We work in Rumford and the rest of Falkirk, as part of our work across South East England, London and Scotland. To book, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Rumford homes and the weather
Rumford is within about 3 miles of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
For an older house near a landmark such as Brightons Parish Church, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:
- Frames that have decayed or split
- Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)
- A roof that has moved or dropped
