Glazing silicone near Ranfurly

How we handle glazing silicone in Ranfurly

Glazing silicone is a maintenance item. Sun, rain and movement wear it down, and once it cracks, water follows. Resealing puts that right. If you’re dealing with shower screens leaking along the wall or tray and drips on the inside of a conservatory window, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee.

Ranfurly questions

Do you cover smaller places like Ranfurly?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Milliken Park station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

What does glazing silicone cost?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Do you guarantee glazing sealant work?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured.

Can a conservatory leak be sealed?

If the water is coming in through failed sealant joints, yes. If it’s a broken panel, failed unit or roof problem, we’ll tell you.

How long before the joint can be used?

Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We’ll tell you how long to leave the joint.

Windows and doors in Ranfurly

The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for glazing joints and frame seals to keep out. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.

If you let a flat or house near Milliken Park station, a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

How we quote for glazing silicone

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • Whether the work is at height

Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Helping us quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Roughly how big the job is

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Do you need glazing silicone in Ranfurly?

The wrong sealant is a common cause. Not every silicone sticks properly to glass, and acetoxy types can attack some frame materials.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Failed joints on frameless glass
  • Leaks from the base of a shower screen
  • Mouldy sealant around glass panels
  • Glazing silicone that has cracked or come away

If you live in an older home near Ranfurly Church of Scotland, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is normally the first place rain gets in.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What insurance they hold
  • How the colour is chosen
  • What product goes in the joint

Our hiring checklist

What happens on the day

You do not need to clear the whole room or building, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing in most cases. Outside jobs in Ranfurly need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First we agree the joints to be done.
  2. Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.
  5. The joints are checked before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Why it’s worth doing now in Ranfurly

Leaks get worse, not better. Water can damage frames, walls, flooring and furniture, so it pays to deal with it early. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

The cost depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

What you get with us

  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
  • Tidy, careful work
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows

Aftercare tips

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Squeegee the shower screen after each use
  • Open vents or windows to let moisture out
  • Avoid strong solvents on or near the sealant

Squeegee a shower screen after each shower and keep the room ventilated. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.

Cracked glazing silicone means the joint has failed. Resealing now is a small job, compared with repairing damaged frames or plaster.
