Glazing silicone in Poolewe, done properly
Glazing silicone that has yellowed, blackened or come away looks poor and can leak. It comes off cleanly, without marking the glass before the new bead goes in. If you’re dealing with failed joints on frameless glass and leaks from the base of a shower screen, we can help, on glass-to-frame joints, conservatory frames and glass balustrade bases alike.
Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Poolewe is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.

What glazing silicone looks like in Poolewe
Poolewe is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
Around Poolewe, as everywhere, glazing silicone is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Why deal with it now?
Resealing can’t fix a failed unit or a cracked panel. We say so plainly and point you to a glazier or roofer. In a place like Poolewe, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What affects the quote in Poolewe
Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:
- The number and length of the joints
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- When we can work, for business premises
- How many areas need sealing
We do not show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- If someone has resealed it before
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we send you a clear quote for your job. To get started, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What we do, step by step
There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job in most cases. Somewhere like Poolewe may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We start by finding the leak and making sure sealant is the cause.
- Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
- We clean the joint with a solvent that suits the glass and frame.
- New glazing silicone goes in and is tooled to a neat finish.
- We look over every joint and, where we can, test it with water.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Tell us about any water getting in
Ask for a quote
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and add pictures by email if you can.
Advice
What the job involves on each surface
Conservatory frames
Exposed frame joints wear with the weather. A fresh bead seals them again.
Glass-to-frame joints
Where glass sits in a frame, silicone keeps water out. When it splits, water can get into the frame.
FAQs for Poolewe
Do you cover Poolewe for glazing silicone?
Yes, Poolewe is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
Is glazing silicone in a coastal place like Poolewe any different?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
How long should I leave it?
Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We will give you the cure time for the product we used.
Can you fix a leaking conservatory?
If the water is coming in through failed sealant joints, yes. If the cause is the roof, a panel or a unit, we will say so.
Is there any odour?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.
Do you fit new glass or sealed units?
No. A misted unit has failed inside, and a glazier needs to replace it.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.
Do you need glazing silicone in Poolewe?
Some conservatory leaks are not sealant at all: broken panels, roof problems and blocked gutters can all let water in. That is why we trace the leak first.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
- Failed sealant around rooflight glass
- A quick top-up bead that didn’t last
- Water tracking down the inner face of the glass
Whether the job is in Poolewe itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
Before booking anyone
- Whether VAT is included
- Who turns up on the day
- When the joint can take water or movement
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
When it is not the sealant
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Failed flashing around a conservatory
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)
- A frame that needs repairing or replacing
If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Can I do it myself?
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
