Glazing silicone for High Banton homes and businesses

Leave it or put it right?

Fixing a leaking screen early protects what’s underneath. Water from a failed joint can soak into the floor before you notice. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Glazing silicone in High Banton, done properly

Not every silicone suits glass. Our applicators use neutral-cure glazing silicone, which suits glass and most frame materials, finished with a neat, even bead. If you have failed sealant around rooflight glass and leaks from the base of a shower screen, we can help, whatever the surface.

Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around High Banton is planned around the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in High Banton and everywhere else we cover.

DIY versus a professional finish

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

What glazing silicone looks like in High Banton

Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic. High Banton is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, which means glazing joints and frame seals has to cope with a lot of rain.

Rented homes near Croy station change hands often, and leaking glazing joints, shower screens or conservatory seals are worth sorting between tenancies. In the older streets around Banton Church, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Do not use a blade near the sealant
  • Get a new leak looked at quickly

Don’t use blades or scrapers near the bead when you clean. A soft cloth or sponge is best.

Shower screen leaks can go unnoticed. It can damage the floor or the ceiling below long before you see it.

Surface by surface

Shower screens

A screen’s wall joint and tray joint are where leaks start. Both are resealed with anti-fungal silicone.

Glass-to-glass joints

Frameless glass corners and panels are joined with silicone. We reseal with a suitable glazing silicone.

What we can’t put right

  • Glass that needs replacing

How it works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. Outdoor work around High Banton depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We start by finding the leak and making sure sealant is the cause.
  2. Old silicone is cut away from the glass and frame without scratching either.
  3. The glass and frame are cleaned and degreased.
  4. We apply a neutral-cure glazing silicone and tool it smooth.
  5. We look over every joint and, where we can, test it with water.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
