Glazing silicone in Hale Street

About our glazing silicone in Hale Street

Our work covers conservatory joints, rooflights and glass panels, as well as frameless shower screens and glass balustrade bases. The old sealant comes out, the joint is cleaned and new silicone goes in. If you have drips on the inside of a conservatory window and failed joints on frameless glass, we can put it right, on shower screens, conservatory frames and glass-to-frame joints alike.

Outdoor sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work on frames around Hale Street is planned for dry weather. Let us know about access to all the frames, upstairs ones included.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Quotes for glazing silicone in Hale Street

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How much there is to do

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Asking for a quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

We don’t publish a price list. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. Somewhere as small as Hale Street, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we agree the joints to be done.
  2. Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.
  5. The joints are checked before we leave.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Clear the area around the work

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Can a conservatory leak be sealed?

Often, if the leak is at a sealant joint. We find where the water gets in first, so you know what you’re paying for.

Why not top up the existing silicone?

New silicone won’t bond to old silicone and water gets between the layers. We cut out the old sealant first.

How long before the joint can be used?

It depends on the product and the conditions. Before we leave, we will tell you the cure time.

How long will you be here?

That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Different surfaces, different methods

Conservatory frames

Exposed frame joints wear with the weather. A fresh bead seals them again.

Glass-to-frame joints

The sealant must stick to glass and frame alike. We use a glazing silicone suited to each.

What sealant work cannot fix

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof
  • Rotten or badly damaged frames
  • Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think before you book.

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Frames and glazing around Hale Street

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. With historic houses such as Old Soar Manor (about 4.4 miles north-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Hale Street as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that is traditional sand mastic.

If you let a flat or house near Yalding station, glazing joints are worth checking at the end of a tenancy, before a small leak grows. Schools such as East Peckham Primary School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.
