Signs you need glazing silicone in Ford

New silicone over old silicone will not bond. Plenty of leaks come from a quick top-up over the old bead leaving a path for water.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Failed joints on frameless glass
  • Stained, discoloured glazing silicone
  • Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
  • Shower screens leaking along the wall or tray

In and around Ford, as anywhere, good glazing silicone starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Choosing a sealant specialist

Glazing silicone in Ford

Glazing joints need a sealant made for glass. Our applicators use neutral-cure glazing silicone, which suits glass and most frame materials, finished with a neat, even bead. We work on rooflights, conservatory frames and glass-to-glass joints, and the jobs we see most are split or lifting silicone on glass and stained, discoloured glazing silicone.

Outdoor sealant needs dry, clean surfaces, so work on frames around Ford is planned for dry weather. Tell us about access to every side of the house, including upper-floor windows.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Can I do it myself?

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What affects the cost of glazing silicone

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The number and length of the joints

A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • The type of property
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • How we’d reach the joints

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details, and photos are welcome.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A broken pane or roof panel
  • A frame that needs repairing or replacing
  • Water coming through the roof rather than a sealant joint

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Shower screens
  • Rooflights
  • Glass balustrade bases

Glazing silicone in Ford: local notes

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. It generally takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Ford needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, we check where the water gets in.
  2. We remove the old sealant carefully.
  3. The joint is cleaned and degreased.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.

Related advice

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Ventilate the conservatory to cut condensation
  • Get a new leak looked at quickly
  • Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
  • Do not use a blade near the sealant

Keep the new joints dry for as long as we advise so the silicone can set properly. From then on, a mild glass cleaner is all it needs.

If silicone on glass has cracked, water is already getting in. Renewing it early keeps it simple compared with fixing water damage later.

Why deal with it now?

If the problem is a misted unit or a broken panel, sealant will not help. We say so plainly, so you can call the right trade. Older cottages and farmhouses around Ford can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
