Glazing silicone in Dunure

Frameless shower screens rely on sealant to keep water in. The joint down the wall and the one along the tray are common leak points, and we reseal both. If you have leaks from the base of a shower screen and a quick top-up bead that didn’t last, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Dunure depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Your questions about glazing silicone in Dunure

Is Dunure within the area you cover?

Yes, Dunure is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Does living near the coast affect glazing silicone in Dunure?

Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.

Can you reseal the base of a glass balustrade?

We can, if the base joint is sealed. Photos help us see what’s there.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Hotels, offices and other businesses use us, and we are fully insured.

Can you reseal a frameless shower screen?

Yes, we do these often. The screen is resealed with anti-fungal silicone made for wet areas.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Dunure and the rest of South Ayrshire, along with the rest of our area.

Keeping the joints in good condition

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Avoid scraping close to the bead
  • Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
  • Inspect the sealant on glazing annually
  • Stick to mild cleaners on glass

Keep conservatory gutters clear, so water drains away from the joints. Overflowing gutters can cause leaks of their own.

Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water runs along frames and down walls so it’s best dealt with right away.

The process

On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so you know exactly what we’re doing. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for most jobs. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
  3. We clean the glass and frame so the new silicone bonds.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

How to prepare

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:

  • The type of sealant required
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • When we can work, for business premises

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

What we’re called out for in Dunure

Sealant laid over old sealant doesn’t last. Plenty of leaks come from a quick top-up over the old bead, and water gets between the layers.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Conservatory leaks at frame and glazing joints
  • Rooflight joints letting water in
  • Water escaping where a screen meets the wall
  • Water tracking down the inner face of the glass

Rented homes near Maybole station change hands often, and glazing joints are worth checking at the end of a tenancy, before a small leak grows.

Glazing silicone in Dunure: local notes

Dunure is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.

If you live in an older home near Kirkbride Old Parish Church, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.

Dunure is about 6 miles south-west of Ayr, in South Ayrshire. Anywhere in KA7, our applicators can take on glazing silicone. Our area takes in 52 places across South Ayrshire, large and small. Our Glasgow page covers work nearby.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Why it’s worth doing now in Dunure

If the problem is a misted unit or a broken panel, sealant will not help. We’ll tell you that rather than seal it anyway, so you can call the right trade. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Why us?
