Drumclog: your questions answered
Will you come out to Drumclog?
Yes, Drumclog is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is there a guarantee on glazing silicone in Drumclog?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
We can work for tenants, landlords or agents. Get your landlord’s agreement first.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and you will get one quote.
Can you replace a misted double-glazed unit?
No. Misting between panes means the sealed unit has failed, and a glazier needs to replace it.
Glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Drumclog
We do not replace glass, and misting between panes means a failed sealed unit. Our work is the sealant joints and that is often where the water gets in. Typical jobs include leaks from the base of a shower screen and failed joints on frameless glass, on glass-to-glass joints, shower screens and glass balustrade bases.
Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Looking after it afterwards
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
- Clear the conservatory gutters regularly
- Act on drips or damp patches early
- Check the silicone on glass every year or so
On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and let the room air. It helps stop mould getting into the silicone.
Act on black or lifting silicone early. Peeling silicone lets water in behind and the leak gets worse.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Drumclog and across South Lanarkshire. Several sites can be quoted together, and we’re fully insured.

What sealant work cannot fix
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Glass that needs replacing
- Structural problems with a conservatory roof
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.
What we seal
- Glass balustrade bases
- Glass-to-glass joints
- Shower screens
- Glass-to-frame joints
- Rooflights
- Conservatory frames
The process
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- First, we check where the water gets in.
- The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
- The joint is cleaned and degreased.
- A neutral-cure glazing silicone is applied and tooled.
- We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

What glazing silicone looks like in Drumclog
Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
If you live in an older home near Drumclog Memorial Kirk, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in. In and around Drumclog, as anywhere, good glazing silicone starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Rooflights
Water around a rooflight is not always the sealant. We check which it is.
Conservatory frames
The joints where the conservatory meets the house take a lot of movement. They’re resealed with a suitable sealant.
What happens if it’s left?
Glazing joints need a sealant made for the job. General-purpose sealant from a DIY shop may not suit glass or the frame, so we use neutral-cure glazing silicone. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
