Glazing silicone in Dalmally, done properly
Sealant on glazing doesn’t last for ever. Weather and movement take their toll, and once it cracks, water follows. Resealing puts that right. We work on conservatory frames, glass-to-glass joints and rooflights, and the jobs we see most are cracked silicone between glass panels and water escaping where a screen meets the wall.
Outdoor sealant needs a dry surface, so window work around Dalmally is planned around the weather. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.
Our work is backed for twelve months.

Keeping the joints in good condition
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
- Run a squeegee over the glass when you’re done
- Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
On shower screens, wipe or squeegee after use and keep the room ventilated. That slows mould growth on the bead.
Don’t leave lifting or mouldy silicone on glazing. Once it starts to peel, water gets behind it and the problem grows.
How we quote for glazing silicone
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Access and height
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The size of the job
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
What we need to know
When you contact us, it’s useful to know:
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- The type of property
- How we’d reach the joints
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you are ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
What we can’t put right
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)
- A frame that needs repairing or replacing
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.
What we seal

Signs you need glazing silicone in Dalmally
UV light ages silicone and roof joints get the most sun. It goes brittle, cracks and stops sticking on the glass.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Glazing silicone that has cracked or come away
- Water tracking down the inner face of the glass
- Rooflight joints letting water in
- Leaks from the base of a shower screen
Letting a property close to Dalmally station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.
What to look for in a quote
- What the cure time is
- How the joint is cleaned and prepared
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
Surface by surface
Shower screens
Silicone holds the water in on frameless screens. We renew it without marking the glass.
Glass-to-frame joints
Where glass sits in a frame, silicone keeps water out. A failed bead lets water in.

What we do, step by step
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on how many joints need doing, including the tidy-up. Outside jobs in Dalmally need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we check where the water gets in.
- The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
- The joint is cleaned and degreased.
- We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
- Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.
Getting ready for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Common questions in Dalmally
I let a flat near Dalmally station. Can you help?
Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.
Can you do glazing silicone in Dalmally?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Dalmally is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.
Is it messy?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can you reseal a frameless shower screen?
We can. We remove the old silicone carefully, and the joints are cleaned and resealed.
Do I need to be at home?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
Frames and glazing around Dalmally
Dalmally is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for glazing joints and frame seals to keep out. Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, often pointed into the wall with traditional sand mastic.
If you live in an older home near Glenorchy Parish Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint.
