Glazing silicone for homes and businesses in Cuidhir
We work across Cuidhir on glazing joints for homes and businesses. From conservatories to shower screens, it’s the same careful method, with a sealant chosen for the joint. We work on glass balustrade bases, shower screens and conservatory frames, and the jobs we see most are glazing silicone that has cracked or come away and failed joints on frameless glass.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Cuidhir depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Cuidhir as everywhere else we work.

Frames and glazing around Cuidhir
Cuidhir is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so give us as much notice as you can.
Around Cuidhir, as everywhere, glazing silicone is only as good as the preparation behind it. If you live in an older home near Cuier Parish Church and Churchyard, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.
Cuidhir is in Na h-Eileanan Siar. Cuidhir gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Our Na h-Eileanan Siar coverage runs to 87 places, Cuidhir among them.
Every address in HS9 is within our area for glazing silicone, from the main roads to the quietest streets. You will find streets such as Rathad na Ceardaich and Cuithir, and we cover them all. If you are just outside Cuidhir, we cover Brèibhig (3 miles south), Ceann Tangabhal (3 miles south), Eòlaigearraidh (3 miles north-east), Castlebay (3 miles south) and Bàgh a'Chaisteil (3 miles south). For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed, so let us know when you get in touch.

Why it’s worth doing now in Cuidhir
Leaks get worse, not better. Left, water can mark floors, damage plaster and rot timber, so it pays to deal with it early. Around Cuidhir, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Don’t use a blade near the sealant
- Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
- Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
- Open vents or windows to let moisture out
Use mild cleaners on and around the silicone. Harsh solvents may damage the bead.
Drips or damp near a glazing joint shouldn’t be ignored. It may be sealant, or something else and we’ll find out which.
Should I try it myself first?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
When it isn’t the sealant
Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- Condensation trapped between two panes
- A roof that has moved or dropped
- Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

The process
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself normally takes a few hours for most jobs, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Cuidhir depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
- Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
- The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
- New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.
- The joints are checked before we leave.
How to prepare
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. Several properties can be quoted together.
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Surface by surface
Rooflights
Water around a rooflight isn’t always the sealant. We check which it is.
Shower screens
A screen’s wall joint and tray joint are where leaks start. We reseal both with anti-fungal silicone.
