Glazing silicone in Brig o'Turk
Not every silicone suits glass. We use a neutral-cure glazing silicone that’s suited to glass and the frame, and we tool it to a neat, even finish. We work on glass-to-frame joints, glass-to-glass joints and glass balustrade bases, and people most often call us about new silicone smeared over old sealant and water tracking down the inner face of the glass.
Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Why deal with it now?
You do not need new glazing because the sealant has gone. Sound glass and frames normally just need resealing. Around Brig o'Turk, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will go through it with you.

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

What affects the cost of glazing silicone
We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:
- How much there is to do
- Any mould that needs treating
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Access and height
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

FAQs for Brig o'Turk
Is Brig o'Turk within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is there a guarantee on glazing silicone in Brig o'Turk?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do you fit new glass or sealed units?
That is not something we do. A misted unit has failed inside and needs replacing by a glazier.
What should I tell you?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes, every time. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Do I have to be there?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Do you seal glass balustrade bases?
Yes, where the base is finished with sealant. Send us pictures and we’ll take a look when you drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
Most of the time, yes. We’ll explain which colours are available.
Looking after it afterwards
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
- Clear the conservatory gutters regularly
- Run a squeegee over the glass when you’re done
Check the joints once a year. Spotting a crack early means a simpler fix, before water gets in.
A small conservatory leak soon spreads. Water travels along the frame and into the wall, so get it looked at when you first see it.
Can I do it myself?
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
What the job involves on each surface
Shower screens
Silicone holds the water in on frameless screens. We reseal without scratching the glass.
Glass-to-frame joints
We cut the old silicone from the glass without scratching it before new glazing silicone goes in.
Frames and glazing around Brig o'Turk
Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for glazing joints and frame seals to keep out.
If you look after a building such as Trossachs Primary School Schoolhouse, larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages. Homes close to Achray Church include some older properties, and frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.

How it works
Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- We start by finding the leak and making sure sealant is the cause.
- The old sealant is removed from the glass and frame without scratching them.
- We clean the joint with a solvent that suits the glass and frame.
- We apply a neutral-cure glazing silicone and tool it smooth.
- The finished joints are checked and, where it’s safe, tested with water.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Clear the area around the work
