Glazing silicone in Bremirehoull
Glass replacement isn’t something we do, and misting between panes means a failed sealed unit. Our work is the sealant joints and that’s often where the water gets in. If you have failed joints on frameless glass and water escaping where a screen meets the wall, we can put it right.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Bremirehoull depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.
Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Bremirehoull and across the Shetland Islands.

For landlords and businesses
Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.
Why deal with it now?
Silicone around glazing needs the right product. A general-purpose tube may not bond well or may react with the frame so we choose a glazing silicone instead. In a place like Bremirehoull, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

How we quote for glazing silicone
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The product the joint needs
- Any mould that needs treating
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Roughly how big the job is
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Whether it has been sealed before
Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.
How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Use gentle products around the joints
- Don’t leave a drip for the next storm
- Open vents or windows to let moisture out
- Avoid scraping close to the bead
Look over the glazing joints every year or so. Catching a split early keeps the repair small, before water gets in.
A small conservatory leak soon spreads. Water travels along the frame and into the wall, so get it looked at when you first see it.
When it is not the sealant
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (a failed unit for a glazier)
- Frames that have decayed or split
- A broken pane or roof panel
If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Glass-to-frame joints
- Glass-to-glass joints
- Conservatory frames
- Glass balustrade bases
- Rooflights
- Shower screens
Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What happens on the day
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for most jobs and we leave things clean and tidy. Outside jobs in Bremirehoull need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First, we check where the water gets in.
- The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
- The joint is cleaned and degreased.
- We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
- We check the finished joints and test with water where it’s safe.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

FAQs for Bremirehoull
Can you do glazing silicone in Bremirehoull?
Yes, Bremirehoull is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Will you come out to Bremirehoull?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland, including the islands, where work is planned around ferry crossings. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you just put new silicone over the old?
Silicone does not stick to silicone and water gets between the layers. We cut out the old sealant first.
What do you put in the joint?
Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
We will suggest a colour to suit the surroundings, from white and clear to greys and other shades. The product needed can limit the range.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Do you replace glass?
No, our work is the silicone. A glazier replaces glass and units.
How long should I leave it?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will give you the cure time for the product we used.
Frames and glazing around Bremirehoull
Bremirehoull is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
In and around Bremirehoull, as anywhere, good glazing silicone starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. For jobs in and around Bremirehoull, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.
