When to call us in Wells-in-the-Field

Wheels crossing an unfilled concrete joint chip its edges. Pallet trucks and trolleys knock the edges away until the joint widens.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Rigid edge joints in tiled floors
  • Tiled floors with no room to move
  • Floor edges that trap water and grime
  • Chipped and open joints in warehouse floors

If you let a flat or house near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, gaps at skirtings and thresholds are worth sealing between tenancies.

Floor joint sealing for homes and businesses in Wells-in-the-Field

Thresholds are where two floors, or a floor and a door, meet. We use a flexible product that suits both floors in a colour to suit. If you’re dealing with cracked grout where a tiled floor needs a movement joint and gaps between floors and kitchen plinths, we can put it right.

Somewhere as small as Wells-in-the-Field, new homes tend to be conversions, self-builds or a few houses rather than an estate. Each still needs its sealant and floor joints finished properly.

What affects the quote in Wells-in-the-Field

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The size of the job
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The rough size of the job
  • If someone has resealed it before

For a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before we start.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

What floor joint sealing looks like in Wells-in-the-Field

Floors around Hampshire run from suspended timber in older homes to concrete in newer houses and units, and they don’t all move the same way. The joint at the skirting or threshold has to allow for that.

Schools such as Whitchurch Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and floor and threshold joints in busy corridors wear quickly and are best resealed early. Community buildings like St Nicholas' Church are part of the picture too: joints in its floors, skirtings and thresholds need resealing as they wear.

Aftercare tips

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep dirt out of the joints
  • Check the sealant is paintable before decorating
  • Don’t slide heavy items over sealed joints
  • Use a well-wrung mop rather than flooding the floor

Keep off the joint for the time we give you. Feet are usually fine before mopping or wheeled traffic so we will give you each time.

Concrete joints damaged by traffic get worse quickly. Early resealing helps keep the joint intact and the floor safer.

How the visit works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the length of joint. In a small place like Wells-in-the-Field, access is normally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we check the joint and the floor and agree which sealant suits it.
  2. Whatever is in the joint now, whether caulk, grout or sealant, comes out.
  3. The joint is vacuumed clean, with backing fitted wherever depth matters.
  4. A flexible sealant, or a floor-joint sealant for concrete, is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is tooled to a neat finish and we tell you when it can take feet and a mop.

Wells-in-the-Field questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Whitchurch (Hampshire) station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear quote.

Can you do floor joint sealing in Wells-in-the-Field?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Wells-in-the-Field is part of that. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.

Can you add a movement joint to a tiled floor?

Often, yes, where it suits the floor. The grout is raked out and replaced with a flexible sealant in a colour to suit, giving the floor room to move.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We will explain which colours are available and agree one before we start.

Is there any odour?

Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

Where are you based?

We’re based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Why does the gap under my skirting keep coming back?

It’s normally the floor moving: timber drying in winter, floors settling, or caulk that cannot stretch. A flexible bead keeps up with the movement.
