Fire rated sealant in Compton, done properly
Intumescent sealant looks much like any other sealant until it gets hot; in a fire it expands into the joint. Which product suits a gap depends on its width, the materials either side and what runs through it, so we follow the tested detail for each one. We work on door frames, linear gaps and pipe & cable gaps, and the jobs we see most are unsealed gaps where pipes and cables go through a wall and sealant items on a fire risk assessment action list.
In a village or hamlet like Compton, commercial work is more likely to be a pub, a farm shop, holiday lets or a village hall than an office block. They all have washrooms, kitchens and service openings that need the right sealant.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Can I do it myself?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
What we cannot put right
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Issuing a fire rating or certificate for a building
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs
- Fire doors that need new seals, closers or hardware
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Compton: your questions answered
Do you work for landlords with property near Rowlands Castle station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details for a clear quote.
Is Compton in your area for fire rated sealant?
Yes, Compton is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Do you do fire sealant around door frames?
Yes, if the gap is within the product’s tested range. Our work is the gap around the frame and we’ll tell you if we spot problems with the door.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes. More than one area can be quoted together.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Do you certify the fire stopping?
We don’t give ratings or certificates for our work. The requirement comes from your assessor, designer or building control, and we apply a product tested for it, recording the locations and products.
Can I use normal mastic around a pipe through a fire wall?
No. It looks sealed but won’t perform as fire stopping. Use a product tested for that gap and service and we can apply it for you.
Will we have a record of what was sealed?
Yes. When the job is done, we give you the locations and products. If you need photos or a set layout, ask when you get a quote.
How the job changes by surface
Linear gaps
Some linear gaps have to cope with movement as well as fire. We choose a product and depth that suit the gap and the movement.
Flats and HMOs
Converted houses often have gaps around old and new services. We seal the ones on your specification with a tested product.
What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. For a village or hamlet like Compton, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We go through the gaps on your list or survey and check each one’s size and substrate.
- We remove any old or unsuitable filler and clean the gap.
- Backing or fill is fitted where the product’s tested detail calls for it.
- We apply the fire-rated or intumescent sealant to the specified depth and tool it.
- Finally, we list where we worked and what we used, for your records.
Before we arrive
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Mention any parking rules near the property

How to look after the new joints
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Ask every contractor to reseal any fire stopping they disturb
- Keep general-purpose foam and caulk away from fire-stopping gaps
- File the fire-stopping record where your assessor can find it
- Look in service cupboards and ceiling voids from time to time
Any fire seal that’s cut or drilled needs resealing to its tested detail. New services through a sealed wall should include fire stopping in the plan.
When you plan work that goes through walls or ceilings, plan the fire stopping too. Catching it then saves a separate visit later.
When to call us in Compton
Sealant applied too thin, without the backing its detail needs, or onto dust will not perform as it was tested. We see plenty of fire stopping that was hurried particularly when it was the last job before handover.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Open joints along the top of partitions
- Cracked or shrunken fire-rated sealant
- Seals cut through by electricians, plumbers or data installers
- Gaps left after a refit or conversion
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Compton and Up Marden CofE Primary School, gaps opened by contractors for new cabling are a common finding in schools and offices.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- What insurance they hold
- How the colour is chosen
- What product goes in the joint
Why deal with it now?
A quick fill with any sealant to hand isn’t fire stopping. A fire-rated product only performs as tested when it’s installed to its tested detail, which is why we match the product and the method to each gap. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Compton, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
What you get with us

- Full insurance on every job
- Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels

Fire rated sealant around Compton
In England, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment for workplaces and for the common parts of blocks of flats, which is often where open fire-stopping gaps are first noticed. We work to the specification you’re given, installing the product to its tested details.
If you let a flat or house near Rowlands Castle station, any gap left by new services in shared walls should be closed with a fire-rated product. If you look after a church, hall or community building such as The Parish Church of St Mary, older buildings that have had new heating or wiring often have service gaps worth checking.
