External & façade joints in Stoneywood, Falkirk
Movement joints in Stoneywood need attention? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly, with a one-year guarantee.
- Water getting into walls through failed joints
- Movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant
- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
External mastic in Stoneywood, done properly
Low-level joints can usually be done from the ground. For joints higher up, give us some details of the building and we will confirm what access is needed. We work on copings & trims, joints between brick and frames and façade panels, and people most often call us about failed sealant between panels on a façade and plants rooting in failed movement joints.
In and around a place like Stoneywood, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.
We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

Aftercare tips
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Wash walls gently around the sealant
- Tell anyone working on the walls about the movement joints
- Do not let climbing plants root in the sealant
- Act on the first splits you see
Follow the cure time we give you before the joint is knocked or disturbed. Most exterior sealants skin fast but take longer to cure right through.
If you can see gaps, plants or bare sections in a joint, have it checked. Early work is quicker and leaves a better finish.

Stoneywood questions
Do you cover smaller places like Stoneywood?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
I let a flat near Larbert station. Can you help?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.
What sealant do you use?
The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Stoneywood and the rest of Falkirk, along with the rest of our area.
How much does external mastic cost in Stoneywood?
Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. For a quick quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing and where.
What is backing rod for?
Closed-cell backing rod sets the depth of the sealant and stops it sticking to the back of the joint. Then the sealant bonds to two faces and can move.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Do the sealants smell?
It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
How the job changes by surface
Concrete and blockwork
The face of concrete or block is often dusty, so cleaning and priming matter. We prime where the sealant needs it before sealing.
Render joints
Render is weaker at the surface than brick, so a sealant that stretches easily protects the edges. We prime where the product needs it.
The process
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. The job usually takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. Outdoor work around Stoneywood depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- First we look over the joints with you, agree which to renew and talk through access.
- Old sealant and any debris are cut and raked out.
- We clean both faces of the joint and prime them where the product calls for it.
- Backing rod goes in next, setting the depth and keeping the sealant off the back of the joint.
- We gun in a flexible exterior sealant in a colour that suits the wall and tool it neatly.
How to prepare
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Advice
Honest limits
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:
- Walls that need new movement joints cut into them
- Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
- Subsidence or other structural problems
If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.
What we seal
- Brickwork movement joints
- Copings & trims
- Concrete & block
- Render & cladding joints
- Joints between brick and frames
- Façade panels
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
What affects the quote in Stoneywood
We don’t publish a price list. What we look at:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Whether the work is at height
Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear price for the lot.
Asking for a quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- How we’d reach the joints
- Roughly how big the job is
- Photos by email, if that is easy
We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and pictures are welcome.
Stoneywood buildings and the weather
Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
If you look after a building such as Denny High School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. For landlords with property near Larbert station, failed wall and movement joints let damp in, so they’re worth checking between tenancies.
Stoneywood is about 6 miles west of Falkirk, in Falkirk. Stoneywood gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a one-year guarantee. Stoneywood is one of 50 towns and villages in Falkirk where we work for external mastic. We also work in Glasgow, around 18 miles away.
Work in FK6 works the same way as everywhere else we cover. That includes homes and businesses on Stoneywood Park, Kirkland Drive and Old Mill Way and the roads around them. If you’re just outside Stoneywood, we cover Fankerton (1 mile west), Dunipace (1 mile north-east), Denny (1 mile south-east), Head of Muir (1 mile south-east) and Dennyloanhead (2 miles south-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Falkirk (6 miles east), Grangemouth (8 miles east), Bo'ness (12 miles east), Larbert (4 miles east), Stenhousemuir (5 miles east) and Bantaskin (5 miles east).
Around Stoneywood
The nearest railway station is Larbert station, roughly 3.8 miles east. Well-known places in the area include Herbertshire Castle (0.5 miles north-east) and Forth Valley Royal Hospital (3.1 miles east). Open spaces near Stoneywood include Myot Hill.
What happens if it’s left?
A low-modulus sealant is chosen because it moves without pulling hard at the edges. That protects surfaces like brick, render and concrete. Too stiff a sealant can pull at the edges and break them. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
