External & façade joints in North Street, Medway
Our applicators work in North Street on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Brick movement joints where the sealant has split
- Panel joints letting water in
- Weathered mastic that no longer stretches
What we can’t put right
New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:
- Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
- Subsidence or other structural problems
- Damp from another source, such as a leaking gutter or a bridged damp-proof course
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

External mastic in North Street
A movement joint is a deliberate break that lets a wall expand and contract. The sealant in it has to stretch and squeeze for years, and when it fails, the wall takes the strain and water finds a way in. If you are dealing with water getting into walls through failed joints and gaps where render, brick and frames meet, we can put it right.
Somewhere as small as North Street, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.
Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in North Street and across Medway.

Questions from North Street
Will you come out to North Street?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is external mastic in a coastal place like North Street any different?
Near the coast, wind-driven rain and, nearer the shore, salt air make outside sealant work harder. Choosing the right sealant for the frame and wall, laid at the right depth, helps it last.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with our work in that time, tell us and we will put it right.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.
Where do you work from?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover North Street and the rest of Medway, along with the rest of our area.
What does external mastic cost?
It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a short description of the job.
How often do external joints need resealing?
That varies with the weather the wall faces, how much it moves and the sealant used. Sealant is a maintenance item, so check the joints once a year and reseal when it splits.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Aftercare tips
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Keep movement joints as flexible joints, not mortar
- Avoid pressure-washing directly into sealant joints
- Check external joints each spring
- Tell anyone working on the walls about the movement joints
Make sure anyone working on the wall later knows where the movement joints are. They should be kept open and resealed, not filled.
Leaks behind façade panels and render often go unseen. When it finally shows inside, the joint may have been open for years.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. The work generally takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building. Somewhere as small as North Street, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We start by walking round the building and agreeing the joints and the access.
- Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
- The faces are brushed clean and primed where the product requires it.
- We fit closed-cell backing rod to control the depth.
- We apply the sealant, tool it and check the whole run.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Related advice
How the job changes by surface
Cladding and façade panels
Panels heat up and cool down quickly, so the joint sealant has to cope with frequent movement. The sealant is chosen with that in mind.
Joints between dissimilar materials
Wherever two materials meet, they move differently. We seal the joint with a flexible exterior sealant so neither cracks the other.

What else we do in North Street
Why deal with it now?
The longer a joint stays open, the more water the wall takes in. In cold weather, frost can damage wet brick and render, so the damage spreads beyond the joint. Older cottages and farmhouses around North Street can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Outside joints around North Street
North Street is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on movement joints and outside wall joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
In the older streets around Church of St Peter and St Paul, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. Letting a property close to Gillingham (Kent) station? Then failed wall and movement joints let damp in, so they’re worth checking between tenancies.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
How we quote for external mastic
Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:
- Whether the work is at height
- The number and length of the joints
- When we can work, for business premises
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.
Helping us quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. Photos by email help us understand the job, and we’ll come back to you with a quote.
